One of the great things about having thousands of daily readers is that I get the chance to introduce people to new and interesting products or articles. The former is a big deal because I get to spotlight products that may not garner instant attention, but definitely warrant the type of extended coverage that was formerly the hallmark of our establishment press. Which is to say, I found a fun press release across the transom – I love that word: transom! – about the PicoCricket (www.picocricket.com), an invention kit from the MIT Media Lab. Some quick observations: the PicoCricket enables children to develop their own fun creations, from interactive jewelry to motion-sensitive objects that seemingly come to life. I know many parents who would jump at the chance to buy the PicoCricket because it imparts important lessons about science and technology, while also giving boys and girls the opportunity to play. Sort of reminds me of Kix Cereal: "Kids like Kix for what Kix has got", "Moms like Kix for what Kix is not." Put another way, the PicoCricket is an investment that will provide years of worthwhile returns. Check it out!
